Overview
MOTS-c is a peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene (MT-RNR1), first described in 2015. Preclinical work characterises activation of AMPK via the folate–AICAR axis and a signaling role between the mitochondrion and the nucleus. Human data are limited to observational association studies; the native peptide has not been trialled in humans. Supplied lyophilized for in-vitro research use.
